Full ownership and control over these assets enable us to trade directly on the energy market and respond quickly to fluctuations in electricity demand. We maximise impact by managing our solar parks and storage systems in a smart, coordinated and strategic way.

We participate in the day-ahead, intraday and imbalance marketsMarkets where electricity is traded for the following day, within the same day, or in real time to correct deviations between supply and demand.. This allows us to trade solar energy at the right moment, respond to changing conditions and help keep the grid stable.

As a Balancing Service ProviderA certified party that supports grid operators in keeping the electricity grid balanced when supply and demand fluctuate. (BSP), we support grid operators in maintaining grid stability. We provide services such as FCR and aFRRAutomated balancing services used to align supply and demand. FCR provides the initial response, followed by aFRR. to respond quickly to changes in supply and demand. Through redispatchA measure where electricity production is increased or reduced to prevent grid congestion., we help grid operators prevent grid congestion. During peak times, we apply curtailmentThe temporary reduction or shutdown of electricity production, often due to oversupply or limited grid capacity., temporarily reducing or stopping our solar energy production.

Our solar energy is also available to business consumers. Through Guarantees of Origins (GoOs) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)GoOs are certificates that verify the origin of renewable electricity. PPAs are long-term agreements between a producer and offtaker., businesses can link their electricity consumption to our solar energy.

We consider the transition to electric mobility a key component of the energy transition. Since 2020, our subsidiary PowerGo is rolling out charging solutions for electric vehicles. PowerGo utilises PowerField’s GoOs to power its charging infrastructure with solar energy. With over 1,700 operational charging points, PowerGo is rapidly expanding its international (fast) charging network. From shopping centres to fleets and industrial estates, in cities and regionally.

Solar energy from the Netherlands

Since 2015, we have developed more than 30 solar parks, with a combined installed capacity of nearly 1 gigawatt-peak (GWp). From 2019 onwards, we have shifted focus to expanding our own portfolio, which now includes more than 300 megawatt-peak (MWp) of operational capacity. With projects spread across the Netherlands, we generate solar energy in a consistent and balanced way.

Storage for flexibility and grid balance

We connect our solar parks to battery energy storage systems to temporarily store generated energy. When energy supply exceeds demand, we store the surplus. When electricity demand rises and there is sufficient capacity on the grid, we release the stored energy. This is how we use solar energy in a flexible and efficient way, maintain grid balance and help prevent grid overload.
