Through this collaboration, grid operators can temporarily adjust the electricity production of PowerField’s solar parks during periods of pressure on the electricity grid. Grid operators use this flexibility to keep the grid safe and reliable and to make optimal use of the available capacity.
First project with TenneT in Drenthe
TenneT is the first grid operator with which PowerField is putting this collaboration into practice. Solar Park Hollandscheveld, a 51 MWp project in the province of Drenthe, is the first to be used for this purpose. TenneT can temporarily reduce the electricity production of the solar park when this is required for the management of the high voltage grid. When sufficient transmission capacity is available, the solar park returns to normal operation.
“The first actions have already taken place. During periods of high input to the grid, the output of the solar park was temporarily adjusted. In doing so, we were able to provide immediate flexibility to support the grid,” says Eelco Rondhuis, Head of Energy Management at PowerField. “Our solar parks not only generate renewable electricity, but also play a role in supporting the electricity grid. We already do this through the combination with energy storage, and now also by temporarily adjusting the production of our solar parks when needed. By responding flexibly to what the grid requires, we can make better use of available capacity, reduce pressure on the grid and create room for new renewable projects over time.”
