A sustainable addition

Solar Park Zevent is one of seven solar parks PowerField is developing this year. With projects spread across various regions of the Netherlands, including two in the province of Gelderland, PowerField can provide a more stable supply of green electricity to the grid. For example, when it is less sunny in the north, PowerField can still supply solar energy from the east. This is how PowerField contributes to a reliable and sustainable energy supply.

Jean-Louis Bertholet, CEO of PowerField, said: “Solar Park Zevent is a valuable addition to our portfolio and our integrated approach to smartly connecting the generation, storage and trade of solar energy. We are currently constructing several solar parks across the Netherlands, which we aim to commission this year. The distributed locations help us deliver solar energy more evenly. In this way, we are making good progress towards a future-proof energy system.”

The solar park is connected to an existing grid connection, which is shared with another sustainable energy project in the area. Through this, the available capacity on the electricity grid is used optimally

Solar Park Zevent

In balance with the environment

Measures have been taken to ensure the solar park fits naturally into the landscape and supports biodiversity. The work was carried out by Vereniging Streekbeheer Rijk Maas & Waal, a local agricultural nature association committed to preserving and enhancing landscape values.

Solar Park Zevent consists of two parcels, divided by ditches with natural banks. Around the solar park, trees and shrubs have been planted, and the natural strip on the southern side has been extended. As part of its management approach, PowerField allows sheep to graze on the solar park. In addition, walking paths have been created around the entire solar park.

“It's a major step towards the goal we’ve set as a municipality: becoming energy neutral.”

For the environment

Ronald Thoonen, councillor for the municipality of Druten, says: “With this solar park, PowerField is supplying 35 megawatt-peak of green electricity. This not only brings us a significant step closer to contributing to regional energy generation, but more importantly, it’s a major step towards the goal we’ve set as a municipality: becoming energy neutral. On top of that, it’s great that this project also contributes to the environmental fund, which supports other sustainable initiatives.”
